Bridging Disciplines – Advancing Sex and Gender-Related Research within Biomedicine

November 29th – University Hospital Heidelberg

Why are significantly more female patients affected by autoimmune diseases than their male counterparts? Why do cardiac disease symptoms differ so greatly between men and women? And why do we observe sex-specific responses to vaccines or immunotherapy?

Understanding how sex and gender influence disease manifestation, progression, and therapeutic response is crucial for advancing personalized medicine, improving clinical outcomes, and achieving gender equity in healthcare.

The symposium aims to bring together national and international clinicians and researchers from diverse disciplines to discuss the latest developments in sex- and gender-related biomedical research.

Topics Include:

  1. Unraveling Sex-Specific Molecular Mechanisms: X-Chromosome or Hormones—Who’s the Real Culprit?
  2. Sex and Gender Differences in Disease: Cancer, Immunity, Heart, and Lungs—Incidence, Outcomes, and the Molecular Truth
  3. Gender in Clinical Trials: From Mouse Models to Phase 3—Why It Matters
  4. The Socio-Economic Impact of Gender-Specific Medicine: Moving Beyond “One-Size-Fits-All” Healthcare
